plants roots branches
stems with weeds of
unknown origin
Why do this year’s weeds always
look different than last year’s?
You could say I see each Spring
like I have a new garden
Or I have a terrible memory and I’m
reintroduced to my garden each Spring
(I’m really out here for the sunlight
the solitude the grounding bird calls
the control over something
I have no control of)
I’m no more in control
of my garden than I am
of my children’s lives
I plant seeds
I water them
I protect them from
pests and disease
